Description

Dorothea Addison was born in 1918 Weybridge, Surrey.
Patch, a terrier puppy was adopted by the Addison family as a pet for Dorothea in the mid 1920s, when the family lived at Barham Lodge, Weybridge, Surrey.
Interestingly the building and its’ grounds were used by the War Office 1915-1919 as a 35 bed auxiliary hospital with an operating theatre during WW1.
This book contains photographs and is a true story describing his adventures with the family from a dogs point of view and was written by Dorothea in October 1927.
Dorothea attended the London School of Economics and read Social Sciences.
During World War 2 she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the Women’s branch of the British Army.
As she spoke fluent German her main role was to listen in on German pilots whilst they crossed the channel to perform bombing raids on London and the Home Counties. The conversations tended to be about girlfriends and cigarettes - not very important to national security!
She became a children’s social worker and married Christopher Hughes, Professor of Politics at Leicester University.
Dorothea wrote this book as a child about her beloved pet dog Patch. The book was kept in the family and now published as an ebook.
She died in 1993.
